Margot Robbie Joins Tim Burton’s Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman

According to CinemaDrame news agency, Margot Robbie is set to star in Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, directed by Tim Burton, and will also serve as one of the film’s producers. While Burton said last fall that the remake wasn’t confirmed, Jeff Sneider now reports that with the Barbie star on board as both lead and producer—and a completed script in place—the project is moving forward more quickly.

Production on the film, under Warner Bros. and overseen by Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, was first reported in February 2024. At the time, it was revealed that Gillian Flynn, the Emmy-nominated writer of Sharp Objects, was penning the screenplay.

The original Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman was a low-budget 1958 sci-fi film, unofficially made for around $88,000, starring Allison Hayes as a wealthy heiress who transforms into a giant.

Burton previously reimagined a 1950s sci-fi title with 1996’s Mars Attacks!, starring Jack Nicholson, Annette Bening, and Natalie Portman, which grossed $100 million worldwide.

Robbie will produce the film through her LuckyChap banner, just as she did with Barbie, which won a Golden Globe and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. She recently wrapped filming on Emerald Fennell’s remake of Wuthering Heights, and is set to appear later this year in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey alongside Colin Farrell.

The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice director will produce the remake along with Tim Harper, Andrew Mittman, and Kai Dolbashian.
